A Ukrainian military official and member of the international force in Kosovo died in hospital late on Monday after he was seriously wounded in clashes in the north with Serb protesters, Ukraine's UNIAN News Agency reported.

The report of the soldier's death was confirmed by Ukrainian Interior Ministry's press-service department.

Senior lieutenant Ihor Kinal, 25, died after undergoing a surgery.

A total of 20 Ukrainian and 22 Polish peacemakers were wounded as Serb demonstrators attacked a court building in Kosovo's part of the divided city of Mitrovica.

NATO and UN military officials are trying to keep peace in the region while Serbs are staging a number of protests against the recently declared independence of Kosovo.
