The worst violence for a month has flared up in the Gaza Strip, as Israeli troops continue their partial withdrawal from Palestinian towns in the West Bank. Three Palestinian men were shot dead during an incursion by Israeli tanks and troops into the town of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian security and hospital sources said. In other incidents, two Palestinians are reported to have been shot dead near the Netzarim Jewish settlement, and a Palestinian suicide bomber blew up his car outside the Gush Katif settlement block, killing himself and wounding two soldiers. The Gaza violence came as residents of the Palestinian refugee camp at Jenin - scene of the fiercest fighting since the start of Israel's military operation in the West Bank - went about the task of retrieving the bodies of the dead.
