A 15-year-old boy was charged Sunday with killing his parents and two younger brothers in their family house in the town of Cockeysville in the US state of Maryland.

Nicholas Browning used his father's handgun to shoot all four dead on Friday night, Baltimore Sun reported.

"He had some sort of disagreement with his father, and this is how he resolved it," Baltimore County police spokesman Bill Toohey told reporters.

After shooting his father the teenager killed his mother and his two younger brothers aged 13 and 11, still sleeping in their beds, authorities said. The killer then threw the gun into some bushes near the family's home and spent Friday night and all day Saturday with friends.

When dropped off at his house on Saturday, Nicholas Browning went inside and came back out, telling his friends that his father was dead.

Browning confessed to the crimes when detectives noted inconsistencies in his statements and found the gun.

The teenager remains in custody at the Baltimore County Detention Center after he was denied bail on Sunday, facing four counts of first-degree murder.
