French President Nicolas Sarkozy married supermodel Carla Bruni on Saturday, according to reports from a French radio, which were later officially confirmed.

Radio station RTL spoke to witnesses at the low-key ceremony, which took place at the Elysee Palace and was conducted by the mayor of the Paris district that houses the estate.

Reports that Sarkozy married Bruni in secret have been appearing since the beginning of January when the president said at a press conference in Paris that the media might hear about the event when it has already happened.

In October, Sarkozy announced the divorce with his second wife Cecilia two days after it happened before meeting Miss Bruni, a former girlfriend of Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton, in November.
