Serbia is to launch trials against every EU member state that recognises eventual declaration of independence of the Kosovo province, which is said to be a matter of days.

"We shall sue EU states that recognize Kosovo's independence but this does not mean we are to top working for integration in the bloc," Serbia's President Boris Tadic said, as cited by the Blic newspaper.

"Serbia does not aim at moving away from the European Union but just to legally protect its rights," Tadic added.

The news come a week after the former guerrilla leader and current PM of the province Hashim Thaci said Kosovo's independence would be declared within days.

Opinion polls released on Wednesday show Boris Tadic is in the lead ahead of the February 3 presidential election runoff, at which voters will choose between the current pro-Western president and nationalist Tomislav Nikolic.
