U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon met for about an hour Tuesday in hopes of finding ways to work toward a Palestinian-Israeli cease-fire. There was no immediate information released about details of the talks. Before the meeting, Powell said "we are making progress" in the diplomatic mission to end the violence between Israelis and Palestinians but said he could not say "what I will be able to achieve and unable to achieve." Powell's itinerary also includes a meeting Wednesday with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Powell is scheduled to travel to Cairo, Egypt, later Wednesday on his way back to Washington, a senior U.S. official said, quoted by CNN.
