French President Nicolas Sarkozy has married supermodel Carla Bruni at a secret ceremony held at the Elysee palace, local newspaper l'Est Republicain reported Monday.

The newspaper cites a source close to someone "present at the ceremony," which reportedly took place last Thursday.

An Elysee spokesmen refused to comment, saying that the information relates to the president's private life.

Last week Sarkozy hinted at a coming wedding saying at a press conference in Paris that the media may hear about the event when it has already happened.

In October, Sarkozy announced the divorce with his second wife Cecilia two days after it happened before meeting Miss Bruni, a former girlfriend of Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton, in November.
