French President Nicolas Sarkozy suggested that he will marry the Italian model and singer Carla Bruni but failed to mention an exact wedding date, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

"There is a big chance you will hear about it once it is already done,'' he said at a press conference in Paris.

Local media reported two days ago that the couple will make their union official on February 8 or 9, without saying where the information has been got from.

Bruni, 40, and Sarkozy, 52, were first photographed together on December 17 taking her son to Disneyland, Paris. Since then, they have taken trips together to Egypt and Jordan.

Sarkozy defended his widely covered visits where he and Bruni were filmed walking hand in hand by television crews.

"I broke with a deplorable tradition in our country, that of hypocrisy and lies. With Carla, we decided not to lie. We do not want to hide,'' France's head of state explained.

Sarkozy divorced his second wife Cecilia in October. He has one son with her and two others from his first marriage. Bruni has a son from a previous relationship.

Bruni, who was born in Turin, Italy, has lived most of her life in France. After a successful career as a model in the '90s, she turned to music and has released two albums.
