Thirty-five miners are missing after an explosion rocked early Saturday the Ukrainian coal mine where 100 workers died in a blast about two weeks ago, officials reported.
Five miners were seriously injured and twenty others were brought to the surface and rescued, a spokesman of the Ukrainian Emergency Situation Ministry said, as cited by Interfax news agency.
The blast occurred about 1,000m below ground in the Zasyadko mine in the eastern Donetsk region, while more than 380 people were working there.
Ukraine's coal mines are among the most dangerous in the world with a high number of fatalities from accidents. High levels of explosive methane gas accumulate in the pits that are twice the depth of most European coal beds.
