A total of 56 people on board have died after a passenger plane, which crashed in the early hours of Friday near the town of Keciborlu, south-western Turkey, BBC reported.

The plane was carrying 49 passengers and seven crew on board, officials said.

The machine was on a domestic flight from Istanbul to the town of Isparta when it disappeared from radar screens shortly before it was due to land.

The cause of the crash has not been clarified yet, authorities said.
Worried relatives have begun arriving at airports in Istanbul and Isparta, waiting for news of their loved ones. Others have headed to the crash scene.

Police have immediately cordoned off the scene.

The flight was operated by the privately-owned Atlasjet, a low-fare Turkish airline run by two Turkish tour operators, Etstur and Oger Tours.
