Late goals from Blagoy Georgiev and Dimitar Berbatov gave Bulgaria a 2-0 away win against Slovenia in its last qualifier for next year's European Championship.

Both teams had nothing but pride to play for and started the game sluggishly, but neither side took advantage of the other's defensive lapses in the first half.

Bulgaria looked marginally more dangerous and during one of its incisive breakaways, Slovenian Bojan Jokic received a red card for fouling Hristo Yovov as he was the last defender.

Bulgaria failed to use its numerical advantage throughout the second half as its opponents defended resolutely, but with fatigue setting in, the visitors grabbed two goals in the last ten minutes.

Duysburg's Georgiev opened the scoring in the 81st minute with a 30-yard volley and was subsequently booked for excessive celebrations.

Three minutes later, Tottenham striker Berbatov beat the offside trap to score his 39th international goal after rounding the opposition keeper and tapping the ball into the open goal.

Holland lost surprisingly to Belarus away 1-2, but could afford to do so having secured qualification with one game to spare. Romania secured top spot in qualifying group G with a 6-1 demolition of Albania.
