AWARD-WINNER PLAY “TINY DYNAMITE” EXPLODES IN SOFIA

“Tiny Dynamite” is about those tiny moments that have a tremendous significance in our lives, British actor Steven Hoggett said at a press conference a day before the Bulgarian premiere of the British play. “Tiny Dynamite” is written by Abi Morgan and tells the story of people whose life changes fundamentally after meeting each other. It has already been distinguished by the award it won at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. According to the actors in the play, Scott Graham, Steven Hoggett and Eileen Walsh, the collaboration of two of Great Britain’s most exciting companies - Paines Plough and Frantic Assembly, together with Contact – has produced an extremely gentle and fragile love story. The actors’ work with director Vicky Featherstone came quite naturally being personal friends and having similar ideas. The actors described writer Abi Morgan as an interesting, extremely intelligent woman, who thinks instinctively and when writing asks for the impossible. Unlike her TV pieces, her writing about the theatre is free and not that “dangerous”, Eileen Walsh said.

The performance of “Tiny Dynamite” in Bulgaria, result of the collaboration of Bulgarian National Palace of Culture and British Council Bulgaria, was on the advice of Bulgarian specialists who considered it particularly suitable for the Bulgarian audience. Mr. Kevin Lewis, Director British Council Bulgaria, underlined that the play brings together a particularly distinguished group of people, all of them award-winners in their own right. Asked by novinite.com which aspects of the play in his opinion will appeal most to the Bulgarian audience, Mr. Kevin Lewis said he expects these will be the interesting writing, the design and lighting, and of course the love story.

"Tiny Dynamite" performances in Sofia are scheduled for April 9, 10 at the National Palace of Culture, and April 12 in Plovdiv. On April 10 the visiting performers will lead a workshop at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. The performances will mark the beginning of British Council's new season for cultural events. It is also a contribution to one of British Council’s priorities of bringing new British playwriting to Bulgaria.
