Wildfires continue raging in a dozen areas around Los Angeles and San Diego, threatening homes, forcing evacuations and taking the life of at least one person, CNN reported on Monday.
About 17 people were injured in the blazes.
Thousands of firefighters worked into Monday morning in the struggle to protect lives and homes.
Residents in 10,000 homes have been evacuated as the flames had enveloped 8,000 acres and was moving closer to their community.
The death and injuries - including burns to four firefighters - were caused by a fire raging east of San Diego.
It started Sunday morning and had spread over 20,000 acres by the end of the day.
About 1,400 firefighters were battling the Malibu fire that started Sunday morning and by late evening had spread over 2,200 acres, destroying 25 structures.
At least five high-priced homes were destroyed, including Malibu's landmark Castle Kashan, owned by the philanthropist Lilly Lawrence.
A larger fire has spread over 12,500 acres around Santa Clarita, northwest of downtown Los Angeles. About 400 firemen were deployed to battle the blazes there.
