Pop princess Britney Spears has been officially allowed to get supervised visitation of her two sons after she lost custody of them earlier this week, MTV.com reported.

A Los Angeles judge decided that singer's ex-husband Kevin Federline will retain custody of the two-year-old Sean Preston and Jayden James, 1.

Britney did not attend the hearing unlike Federline, whose lawyer told reporters the father made his appearance to introduce himself to the court.

The next hearing in the couple's custody case will be held October 26, and both Spears and Federline are required to be there.

The court ruled that the star's ex-husband "is to retain physical custody of the minor children on Wednesday October 3, 2007 at 12pm until further order of the court".

The decision came ten days after the singer was charged with leaving the scene of a road accident after allegedly driving into a parked car. Besides she had no valid licence at the time of the crash.

If found guilty, Britney faces up to six months behind bars.

The star has also been recently ordered to undergo random drug and alcohol tests twice a week and to complete a parenting class as part of her child custody dispute with Mr Federline.

The divorce of the couple was finalised on 30 July and since then the two ex-partners have shared an equal amount of time with the two boys.

However, Mr Federline has been fighting for greater time and more money.
