The UK Parliament returned early to allow politicians pay their respects to the Queen Mother. Prime Minister Tony Blair led the tributes at the special sitting on Wednesday, saying the Queen Mother "loved her country and in return, her country loved her." The prime minister said that for almost a century she had been part of the life of the nation, inspiring its "respect and affection" through her steadfast support during the Blitz, her warmth and her unstinting work.
