Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh has ended a five-day visit to China with increased economic cooperation high on the agenda for improving bilateral ties between the two Asian giants. In a move aimed at softening their often strained political relations, the world's two most populous nations have agreed to a timeline for solving tensions that have been festering since they fought a brief border war 40 years ago. Singh's visit, which began a day after direct commercial flights between India and China were launched Thursday, paves the way for Premier Zhu Rongji to travel to India later this year.
