Wind Shear Blamed for Thai Plane Crash

An wind shear may have caused Sunday's plane crash at the Thai resort of Phuket, which claimed the lives of at least 89 people, mostly foreigners, officials said, as cited by the Daily Telegraph.

Investigators searched Monday through charred remains of the budget One-Two-Go Airlines plane. It was carrying 123 passengers and seven crew from Bangkok to Phuket when it skidded off a runway while landing in wind and rain.

89 people, including 53 foreigners, were killed in the crash, and 41 others injured, according to data of the transport ministry.

Four Americans, three Iranians as well as a French, British, Swedish and an Australian passenger are on the list of confirmed fatalities in Thailand's worst air accident in a decade.

Investigators said they had recovered the plane's two flight data recorders, known as "black boxes," and hoped they would yield some answers about the accident in a few weeks.

It could take a year to analyse the data, officials said.
