THE SOFIA regional council of the Union of Democratic Forces onvened last night to prepare its stand for the session of the UDF national council today. I will back up the nomination proposed by the current chairperson of the party, if there is such a nomination, Sofia UDF leader Evgeni Bakardzhiev said. Bakardzhiev is certain the national council will appoint a new chairperson of the party. He declined further comment but said he approved the possible nomination of Nadezhda Mihaylova. Meanwhile the UDF regional leaderships in Yambol, Veliko Tarnovo, Rousse, Blagoevgrad, Vidin, Gabrovo, Sandanski, etc. declared for UDF leader Kostov`s resignation. At the same time, the party`s organisations in Pazardzhik, Kardzhali, Stara Zagora, Pernik and Silistra backed up Kostov.
