“China assesses highly the fact that the new Bulgarian government's first contacts with it are at the level of foreign ministers,” Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Passy told journalists after meeting Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Liu Guchang. The Bulgarian foreign minister is paying an official visit to China from April 1 to April 4 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Jiaxuan Tang. The fact that Passy is accompanied by a business delegation and that Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Nikolay Vassilev will pay a visit in late April were also assessed positively. Passy toured the Emperor's palace of Gu-Gung known as the Forbidden City, the Badeling region and climbed the Great Wall. Currently Chinese investments in Bulgaria total USD 240,000. Bulgaria’s trade balance with China is negative, trade between the two countries stand at USD 100 M. In my opinion the formula that Deputy Prime Minister Nikolay Vassilev and I developed – to visit one and the same country over a certain period of time –proves to be very successful, Minister Passy said before leaving for China. He pointed the positive results of this approach in Moscow, concerning the visa regime and Russia’s debt.
