Fatih Ali: Agca to Tell the Truth about Assassination against Pope

Novinite Insider » INTERVIEW | August 3, 2007, Friday // 00:00

Ali Agca, the Turkish gunman who pulled the trigger against Pope John Paul II in 1981, has vowed to reveal the truth about the so-called Bulgarian connection in the assassination attempt in a book.

Fatih Ali, a man responsible for Ali Agca's public relations, gave an interview for Darik Radio commenting on the prisoner's fate, release and his book's publishing.

Q: Mr. Ali, I have approached you because of the death of the Bulgarian, who your client said to be his accomplice in the assassination attempt against Pope Joan Paul II. Why did Ali Agca accuse Sergey Antonov?

A: Unfortunately, I cannot answer this question. We have not got access to Agca and so we could not discuss such matters. I could not tell if there are some relations between my client and Antonov and what exactly they were. All I would say is that after Agca is released, many details will come into the world - who has organized the assassination and what are his personal reasons for taking part in the plot.

Q: Do you think Agca deserves to be free?

A: Yes, of course. Pope John Paul II pardoned him. Besides there is an end to any punishment. Agca served his sentence, but he is still behind bars. I don't know why they are keeping him in jail. Some powers want him to stay in prison.

Q: What are these powers? Who is interested to keep Agca behind bars?

A: I can only tell that Pope Benedict XVI knows much about the reasons for keeping Agca in jail. He knows many things.

Q: Do you mean Pope Benedict XVI stands behind the conspiracy against Agca?

A: Yes, that was what I meant. I believe it is so. He knows much about that and should tell it to the media. And I repeat - many interesting details will come into world as soon as Agca is at liberty.

Q: Agca was recently writing a book, where he intended to reveal the whole truth about the assassination attempt. When will it be completed?

A: It is already completed and will be titled "The Agca Code". We are now negotiating with US film producers, who want to shot a movie. The book will be published after he leaves prison.

Q: When he will be released?

A: In up to two months. All documents needed have already been prepared and submitted. He will be freed, as there is no formal reason to be kept behind bars. Moreover, Agca served three years overtime.
