The earlier retiring of senior army officers will be enforced on July 1, and not September 1, the foreign policy, defence and security committee decided at a meeting March 21. President Parvanov expressed objections to such artificial ways of conducting reforms on the army. In his opinion the army is relatively well structured. The proposal to reduce by three years the retirement age for senior officers was made as an amendment to the Defence and Armed Forces Act. General Miho Mihov, Chief of General Staff of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, disapproved of the idea the retirement age of senior officers to be lowered.
