"Who's that girl" Madona sang once. At the age of 33 this particular girl has already accumulated a solid political experience and compared to the other blond women in the party of Simeon Saxe-Coburg, she has proven she is a hard worker and she is able to conquer any political peak she wishes.

By Lora Petrova

The girl is Gergana Grancharova, who was elected Bulgaria's Minister of European Affairs on March 16, 2007. A total of 157 MPs voted for Grancharova, who has been serving as deputy foreign minister before that. Another 54 MPs rejected her nomination and one abstained from voting.

Gergana Grancharova succeeded Meglena Kuneva, who stepped into her Brussels office as EU consumer affairs commissioner at the beginning of the year when Bulgaria acceded to the European block.

In the past few months before Gergana becoming a minister, the issue of her appointment to the post became so widely discussed as her private life, in which the chair of the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Policy, Solomon Passy somehow sneaked and came to stay. But the Sofia University Law Student graduate prefers to keep silent just to leave the talking to her deeds rather than her mouth.

For the past 7 years she has proven herself to be a perfect diplomat with a razor-sharp mind and flawless style in clothing and making politics. She entered politics as part of the Simeon II National Movement, piled up experience in Passy's team and later showed she is a professional and can even do without them.

Now, having reached this high position, our EU Affairs "officer" will be gentle. Gentle to her people, but working with ardor and no mercy for reaching the top. Her job now will be mainly to coordinate, to seek successful decisions, to suppress crises that emerge among the different Ministries.

Nevertheless, being so devoted a politician the exceptionally beautiful lady says politics is a forbidden discussion topic at home. The fake blonde as it turned out fears she will have to turn her back on her private life, but no matter what, she will always have time for her little girl Katerina. The little devil has already started nagging that Gergana's political engagements are growing in number. Gergana herself says her daughter and her twin sister (a little known fact about Minister's biography are always there for her, supporting her in all her decisions. Which she makes alone.

The "iron" lady as some people started calling her shared that having some time off and "doing nothing" is a luxury. She hates blondes jokes and doesn't miss a chance to say she is a fake one but always point out that blond women are as clever as all the rest. Her career was built on severe discipline, reaching higher and higher political tops, lots of patience and sleepless nights. Nevertheless, Gergana is all against extreme feminism and emancipation. "A woman must be and to remain a woman. Doing otherwise is to go against nature,"Geri loves to say.
