Bulgaria's Princess Kalina gave birth to her first child, a baby boy, minutes after 7 am on Wednesday in Sofia's Lozenets Hospital, the press secretary of the royal family announced.

The royal mother delivered the baby with a Caeserean just days before it was expected. She is feeling well, the delivery was easy and hatchless, doctors from the hospital said.

Paparazzi and reporters from Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands are already leaving for Sofia to mark the occasion.

This is the first baby in Simeon's family that was born in Bulgaria in the past 70 years. The previous time it was Simeon II himself.

Kalina's father, Simeon II Saxe-Coburg, said for the media he has already prepared huge surprises for the mother and the public, but he prefers to keep them secret until the glorious day.

The Princess is also planning several surprises. Most probably Princess Kalina will send greeting cards to all Bulgarian women who become mothers on the day of her delivery.

On the day of Kalina and Kitin's wedding, Simeon II Saxe-Coburg sent 333 greeting cards to all couples who took their vows on the same day.

Princess Kalina, the youngest child of Simeon Saxe-Coburg, married Spanish sailor and adventurer Kitin Munoz at the Tsarska Bistritsa Residence on October 26, 2002.

The two were wed by the head of the Catholic Diocese of Sofia and Plovdiv, Monsignor Georgi Yovchev. The wedding was officiated in the Bulgarian language and the choir with the St Ludwig Catholic Cathedral in Plovdiv also sang in Bulgarian.

During the Catholic ceremony in Tsarska Bistritsa Kalina and Kitin said "I do" in Spanish.

Former Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg accompanied his daughter to the altar in one of the marquees, decorated with many flowers.

The bride and bridegroom exchanged rings and swore an oath of eternal fidelity. The bride wore a white dress, designed according to the Bulgarian folk tradition. During the ceremony Kalina's brothers stood next to her and tears were noticed in the eyes of their parents.

At the Holy Transfiguration Eastern Orthodox Church in Borovets Princess Kalina and Kitin Munos were blessed by Eastern Orthodox clergymen. This was the only part of the wedding to which citizens were freely admitted. Kalina gave her bouquet, flower by flower, to the people in front of the church who sang Bulgarian folk songs. Samokov Mayor presented the couple with an icon of St Simeon of Samokov and a key from the town on behalf of the Samokov citizens.

HRH Infanta Cristina of the Spanish Royal Family and Moroccan Princess Lalla Hasna were one of the 250 guests attending the wedding of Princess Kalina. Royal celebrities, grand-scale politicians and prominent people were among the guests of the aristocratic wedding.
