Sofia Subway workers have dressed up the stations with heart-shaped balloons to up the mood for Valentine's Day.
Although Bulgarians only started to mark lovers' day recently, February 14th has always been a revered holiday in the Balkan country. On that day wine producers and connoisseurs mark the day of Saint Trifon. The holiday is called Trifon Zarezan and tradition has it that the first vines for the year are cut on that day.
Thus Bulgaria is one of the few countries that offer an alternative to people who feel blue and alone on Valentine's Day - there's always something to toast to.
