NEW DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL TV APPOINTED

Kiril Gotsev was appointed General Director of the Bulgarian National Television March 4. Five out of eight members of the Council on Electronic Media voted for his candidature by secret ballot. Kiril Gotsev was elected interim director of the National Television on December 5, following the dismissal of Lilyana Popova. Dimitur Tsonev, and Ivan Takev the other candidates for General Director of the Bulgarian National Television received three and zero votes respectively. Georgi Lozanov, CEM ninth member, cast an empty envelope as a sign of protest. A total of 11 candidates took part in the contest for BNT General Director but only three qualified for the second round. The candidates presented their projects for the television development before the Council on Electronic Media on February 25. Kiril Gotsev ranked first among the three candidates for Director of the National Television in a poll, conducted by the Bulgarian Media coalition from February 27 – March 4. Seventy journalists from printed and on-line media in the whole country, participated in the poll. 28,6% of them voted for Kiril Gotsev, 20% supported the candidature of Dimitur Tsonev, followed by Ivan Takev with 14,3%.
