"BULGARIANS MUST RESPOND TO INSULTING COMMENTS"

Letters to the Editor | March 3, 2002, Sunday // 00:00

I agree with Ms. Simeonova that Bulgarians must respond to such insulting comments. Does anyone in/from Bulgaria do anything about this, or no one has the guts and/or initiative to respond? In the latter case - shame on us Bulgarians for not being organized to defend our image. Such comparisons are absolutely unacceptable! Whoever wrote this from Newsweek and tried to imply negative image on Bulgaria internationally, must apologize. Why not let people make their own judgments and form their own opinions about Bulgaria based on personal impressions and experiences, rather than smearing our image in such a nasty way?!? Or is it too easy to pick on little guys/countries like Bulgaria who might not have the resources or PR expertise to counter-react in international publications? Absolutely unacceptable!!! Besides, such a writing is disproportionate with the modern values that preach for tolerance between nations and international working ethics.
