UNESCO will commemorate this year the 100th anniversary since the birth of Emilian Stanev, one of the classic writers of Bulgarian literature.
The commemoration, reflecting the variety of the talented writer's work, is in line with UNESCO's programme for the promotion of culture and dialogue among civilizations.
Emilian Stanev began by writing stories dealing with social realities and went on to develop his literary talent with animal tales and stories and reflections on national history, the history of the Balkans, religious beliefs, and the concept of good and evil.
His works have been translated into several foreign languages and films based on his novels have been distributed in Europe, Asia and Latin America, thereby contributing to intercultural dialogue among peoples and civilizations.
