The Israeli army pushed into a second West Bank refugee camp Friday and fought gunmen in what it called an attempt to smash terror, as a poll showed Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's popularity at a new low. Palestinian officials said the raids were intended to sabotage a Saudi peace bid and that at least one Palestinian was killed and 23 wounded in the assault on Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank. Two days of heavy fighting, in which one Israeli soldier and 14 Palestinians have now been killed, threaten the land-for-peace initiative proposed by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah just as it is gathering momentum.
