The first draft of British company Crown Agents report on the Bulgarian Customs will be ready March 22, Finance Minister Milen Velchev announced. The report will also include recommendations on the development of the customs administration. The consultancy company report will be agreed with the World Bank and the EU. The final version will be presented in mid-April, he added. According to Minister Velchev the delay in Crown Agents work is due to the poor cooperation with former management of the Customs Agency. In his opinion reforms proceed at a much faster speed after the resignation of former Customs Agency director Emil Dimitrov. Finance Minister Milen Velchev and Crown Agents Executive Director David Philips signed on November 29 a three-year contract for the reform in the Bulgarian customs administration. On February 27 the Parliament rejected the motion tabled by the United Democratic Forces for the setting up of an ad hoc committee, which is to carry out an inquiry into the contract. Former Customs Agency Director Emil Dimitrov submitted his resignation February 20. Asen Asenov was appointed acting Director of Customs Agency. He will perform his duties for three months until a permanent Director is appointed by a competition.
