Russia's RSK MiG, the company, which won the tender for the upgrade and overhaul of the Bulgarian MiG-29 fighter aircraft informed Bulgaria’s Defence Minister Nikolay Svinarov that can only repair the airplanes. The Russian company said that it could not modernize the aircraft since Russia is not a NATO member. Minister Svinarov explained that this would necessitate Russia's RSK MiG to work with another company. He did not deny the information that Germany was not pleased with the fact that the European concern EADS has not won the tender. Still, according to Svinarov, the decision was political and was not a result from business pressure. He reiterated that the negotiations for the repairs and modernization of the Bulgarian aircraft are expected to be finalized by mid-March.
