Bulgaria’s President Georgi Parvanov is on a state visit in Macedonia.Upon his departure, Parvanov explained that the visit to Macedonia should be considered as a sign of Bulgaria’s Balkan politics continuity. He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Passsy and Interior Minister Petkanov. This is the second visit of a Bulgarian President to Macedonia in the history of relations between the two countries. In May 2000 former President Petur Stoyanov paid official visit to Macedonia. Parvanov's visit coincides with the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the recognition of the Republic of Macedonia by Bulgaria. Bulgaria was the first country that recognized the young independent republic with its constitutional name in January 1992. Parvanov's visit to Macedonia is the second one abroad in his capacity as president. Parvanov met with Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski late on February 26. On February 27, Parvanov will meet with Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski, Speaker of Parliament Stojan Andov, the floor leaders of all parliamentary groups - VMRO-PMNE, the Social Democratic Union, the Democratic Party of Albanians, and the Democratic Prosperity. Parvanov will address the MPs in Parliament, too.
