WORLD BANK AIMS TO BOOST CUSTOMS EFFICIENCY

The World Bank will suggest that the Cabinet work out a program for subsidizing the poorest electricity consumers, and not the producers, it transpired after the meeting of President Parvanov and Andrew Vorkink, World Bank Director for Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia February 25. The two officials agreed that negotiations on the restructuring of the second loan of the World Bank in the health care sector are possible. The World Bank mission’ visit is connected with the projects in Bulgaria. Their condition is good, more details will be disclosed after the end of the check-up, Vorkink said. Under one of the projects the World Bank is to release over USD 7 M to six East European countries, including Bulgaria and Romania aiming to boost Customs efficiency and support corruption combat. The World Bank will recommend to the Bulgarian Cabinet speeding up the installation of heat-flow gauges in Sofia and Pernik. President Parvanov and Vorkink discussed the bank’s three major poles of activities – market economy development, administrative reforms as well as providing social assistance to the people who need special cares for social integration.
