BANK ASSETS UP BGN 120 M

Bank Assets in January rose to BGN 120 M, Central Bank data show. The total assets of the banking system amounted to BGN 12,340 BLN end-January in 2001. In the first month of the year the amounts of credits extended by the banks, exceeded the volume of the attracted deposits. Banks’ receivables from credits stood at BGN 4,226 BLN, up from BGN 4,146 BLN over the previous month. The increase was mainly due to BGN 61,440 M rise in loans extended to private enterprises. Deposits increased BGN 61,085 M and stood at BGN 9,617 BLN. The deposits of non-financial institutions and other clients amounted to BGN 8,766 BLN at end- January. At the same time the deposits of other banks fell BGN 83,583 M to BGN 614,986 M at end-January.
