Bulgarian mobile operator Globul announced it has added 487,782 net new subscribers in the nine months to September 2006 to a total number of 2,881,499 subscribers.

The company captured the record 193,422 net new additions in the first three quarters of 2006 with about 47% of them being contract subscribers. It marks the highest percentage in the company's history, beating the record set in the first half of 2006, when over 35% of the net additions were contract customers.

Contract subscribers at the end of the nine months of 2006 accounted approximately for just over one third of total customers, up by 33.7% year-on-year, while pre-paid customers increased by 33.6%, data showed.

The mobile operator, which stepped second to develop its network in Bulgaria, reported a 26% year-on-year growth in revenues since the beginning of 2006, to some BGN 487 million. The company's net income for the period reached BGN 51.76 (US$34.2) million, a 21.6% year-on-year increase.

"Despite the highly competitive environment, Globul continues to grow," the company's CEO Thanasis Katsiroubas commented on the company's 9M 2006 results.

In July this year Globul - a member of Cosmote Group - launched a nationwide campaign to promote its revised corporate identity under a new logo.

Plans 2006 of the second largest mobile operator in Bulgaria include the launch of a fixed-line telephony for business clients, i-mode, mobile Internet services as well as better roaming tariffs.

Globul is 100% owned by the mobile telecommunications company in Greece Cosmote. As of end-March 2006, Globul services were available to 99.6% of Bulgaria's population, covering over 97% of the country's territory. With new data on customer basis the company's market share is quite likely to exceed the 40%-milestone.
