"I HOPE OUR MINISTERS WILL LISTEN TO THE BULGARIAN PEOPLE "

Letters to the Editor | February 22, 2002, Friday // 00:00

Dear Sirs,

Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Solomon Passy does not have an idea what the Bulgarian people want. His declaration that there is a consensus in Bulgaria for the destruction of the SS-23 missiles is wrong. And especially now -after the news that Bulgaria will not be invited to be a member of NATO(personally I am against this membership) and EU, I believe that there will be more people who will think like me.

I recommend to minister Passy to read the discussions in "SkyForum" of the "SEGA" newspaper and probably many more newspapers, where ordinary Bulgarians share their opinions about different issues and see how many people are against this decision ,and also against a decision for a possible closure of the Kozloduy N-plant. I hope that if we want to be part of the EU our parliament should learn a lesson from the same EU we want to join and ask the people through a referendum about important decisions like - destruction of the SS-23 missiles-a matter of national security, the closure of the N-plant Kozloduy-a matter of national importance, because this will have a negative impact on ordinary people, who will pay more for electricity and also will cost Bulgaria its monopoly of the electricity in the Balkans which in return will make us dependant on other countries for the import of electricity.

The decision for NATO membership should also be decided with a referendum, as is the normal procedure in many countries from the same EU which we want to join.I hope our ministers and the members of the parliament will listen to the voice of the Bulgarian people and take a decisions, which will be in our interest and not selling Bulgaria to the Americans and their western friends.
