Bulgaria Honours Malta's Grand Chancellor

The Sofia Institute of Library and Information Sciences will award the degree Doctor Honoris Causa Tuesday to the Grand Chancellor of The Sovereign Military Order of Malta Jean-Pierre Mazery.

The degree will be bestowed on him for his contribution to humanitarian sciences.

He will then have a meeting with Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin.

There is already a bilateral agreement for humanitarian assistance signed during the visit to Bulgaria of the Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Fra' Andrew Bertie.

Jean-Pierre Mazery carries out the duties of PM, Foreign and Interior Minister of the Order. He is responsible for its diplomatic missions. According to the constitution, he represents the Order in front of third states and observes the policy and activities of the Order's government.

The Grand Chancellor has occupied his position since April 2005. He was born in 1942 in Paris. He is French and has graduated from the law and economic departments at the Sorbonne University. He is a doyen at The Hague Academy of International Law.
