“Once again, well-known circles are the protagonists of yet another series of unsubstantiated charges against me. Acting under the guise of ‘informants’ and seekers-of-the-truth these politicians and journals “specialise” in an orchestrated war against me,” the Chairman and CEO of Intracom Socrates Kokkalis said, regarding the lawsuit that was filed by the District Attorney D. Papagelopoulos. “All those who publicly and repeatedly slander will have to take responsibility for their actions when their allegations collapse,” Kokkalis declared. A day after a visit of one of Greece's most prominent businessmen Kokkalis to Bulgaria a prosecutor charged him with six felonies among which are alleged espionage on behalf of the now-defunct East Germany (where Kokkalis grew up and studied) until 1989, fraud, embezzlement and money laundering. He is also accused of offering and taking bribes. Intracom President Socrates Kokkalis was in Bulgaria on February 18 for the signing of an agreement according to which Greek Intralot, part of Intracom group, acquired a 49% stake in Bulgarian soccer bookmaker Eurofootball. In a separate development, the President of the Executive Committee of the ‘Confederation of Greek Industries’ Antonakopoulos and the Chairman of the Board Kyriakopoulos, will pay a visit to Intracom on February 21. During their visit they will have meetings with the executives of the company and they will tour the installations of Intracom, which is the largest IT company in Southeast Europe.
