US President George W. Bush arrived in Seoul on Tuesday for the latest and most sensitive leg of his tour of north-east Asia. Mr Bush's two-night stay in South Korea is scheduled to include a visit on Wednesday to the country's tense border with communist North Korea, bringing the president face-to-face with one of the countries he named as part of an "axis of evil" that threatened US security. Seoul has lobbied Washington to tone down its language against North Korea amid concern that Mr Bush's uncompromising approach to the reclusive regime could spark an escalation in tension on the heavily-militarised Korean peninsula, divided since the second world war.
