GAZPROM GRANTS KIEV PERMISSION TO RETURN GAS TO BULGARIA

Gazprom confirmed the schedule according to which Ukraine is to return to Bulgaria natural gas under the Yamburgsk agreement, it transpired after the Moscow meeting of Energy Minister Milko Kovachev with Yuriy Komarov, Deputy chairman of Gazprom Managing Board of Directors. The settling of the debt was agreed during the visit of Economy Minister Nikolay Vassilev in Moscow. In order to give it back to Bulgaria Kiev had to receive first a permission from Gazprom, which sells the fuel. Reducing prices of Russian gas and supplies were not discussed at the meetings in Moscow. According to experts Sofia insists on reduced quantities of gas because of the reduced demand in the country, while Gazprom is against it. Russia did not comment the concept for a development strategy in the energy sector and expects Bulgaria to officially announce its intentions, Minister Kovachev said. He described his talks at the Ministries of Energy, Nuclear Power and Gazprom as consultative and introductory. Minister Kovachev expressed the hope that the meetings will contribute to the success of the upcoming session of the intergovernmental commission later this week.
