Bulgaria's famed Roma transvestite Azis "married" his long-time lover Niki Kitaetsa (The Chinese), at a mock ceremony in Sofia's posh Dali Club.

Same-sex marriages are illegal in the country, but that didn't stop the folk singer from re-enacting the whole ritual, bridesmaids and all.

At the end Azis and his significant other even signed a notebook that looked like the registrar every newlywed couple has to sign in.

Models, musicians, actors and other stars of Bulgaria's highlife scene attended the wedding, some bringing along gifts only sold to people over 18.

Azis, who warmed up for a recent concert of Serbian folk diva Ceca Velickovic, has already announced that this has been his last on-stage appearance, but still manages to generate attention with his wedding. After talking about the event for months, the controversial star held a betrothing ceremony at another club the night before the concert.

Rumours also have it that Azis and his beloved travelling to Germany to hold the official ceremony away from the restrictions of Bulgarian laws.
