BULGARIA’S CONTINGENT TO AFGHANISTAN LEFT FEB. 18

The first group of Bulgarian servicemen who will join the British contingent of peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan departed on February 18. Defense Minister Nikolay Svinarov and General Miho Mihov, Chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian army, attended the official ceremony at Sofia airport. The contingent consists of 31 men, who will be in charge of a military chemical complex. The Bulgarians will be paid USD 60 a day plus their salaries upped by 20% because of the risk they take. Their stay there will last three months. The second group of Bulgarian servicemen will leave for Afghanistan on February 20.
