The south wing of Bachkovski monastery, located 29 km south of Plovdiv, may crumble down, unless urgent restoration and renovation of the monastery starts, a commission with the National Institute for Culture Monuments concluded. The worst hit wing, the oldest in the monastery, dates back from 1601. The heavy snowfall worsened the monastery’s condition even more. Despite the danger the monks refuse to be evacuated.
