AMENDMENTS TO CONSTITUTION TO BE ENDORSED WITHIN TWO WEEKS
Politics | February 17, 2002, Sunday // 00:00
A working group to work out draft amendments to the constitution, connected with Bulgaria's membership in the EU, is formed with the Ministry of Justice, Minister Anton Stankov told Darik radio. One of the amendments is connected with the restriction of the magistrates' immunity. “The immunity should be enforced and protect the magistrates only while he/she is at his/her office desk or in the court room. On the street he's a citizen like all the rest,” Stankov explained. His deputy Sevdalin Bozhikov will head the group drafting the amendments to the constitution. The group will discuss the restriction of the MPs' immunity, too, Deputy Justice Minister Mario Dimitrov explained. According to him, there's a resistance in the Parliament and some MPs are very sensitive to this problem.
