BULGARIAN LEV/EURO FALLS AT CLOSE, LEV/USD FIRMS

Bulgaria's lev closed at 1.9478/1.9480 per euro on Friday, a touch softer than 1.9475/1.9478 at Thursday's close in balanced interbank trade, dealers said, quoted by Standart Daily. Against the dollar, the lev closed at 2.234/2.235, firmer than Thursday's 2.238/2.239, shadowing euro's rise against the dollar abroad through the lev/euro peg. Bulgaria pegged the lev at 1.95583 per euro from 1999 as part of its currency board system backed by the IMF.
