Best Bulgarian tennis player Magdalena Maleeva suffered a defeat from Belgian Justine Henin, seeded second, in the quarterfinals of the USD 585,000 Diamond Games in Antwerp, Belgium (5:1), (6:7) (1:7), (1:6). This is Magi’s third defeat from Henin. Magdalena Maleeva beat American Meilen Tu in straight sets earlier on February 13. Maleeva's 6-4, 6-3 second round win got her a place in the quarterfinals of the USD 585,000 Diamond Games in Antwerp, Belgium. Although the first set started evenly matched, at 5-4 Maleeva stepped up a gear, clinching the set with a whiplash return that Tu stretched to reach and hit into the tramlines. In the second set, Maleeva's strength on the fast, synthetic surface kept Tu pinned down. The Bulgarian, world ranked 18, broke to love for 3-1, then pounded in her own serve for another game with no points for the American. Henin won a place in the quarterfinals after beating fellow Belgian Els Callens in straight sets. The world No. 9 showed no mercy to her friend from Belgium's Fed Cup-winning team, racing to a 5-0 lead in barely 15 minutes before taking the match 6-1, 6-4.
