EIU PREDICTS COALITION GOVERNMENT AFTER ELECTIONS

Politics | June 14, 2001, Thursday // 00:00

The latest analyses of Economist Intelligence Unit shows that National Movement Simeon II will lead on the general elections June 17 with a small margin. The next parliament is predicted to be a coalition between NMS II, currently ruling UDF and Movement for Rights and Freedom. Separation of ministers` seats will cause many problems and will delay the formation of new cabinet, Fiona Mulun, EIU expert for Bulgaria elaborated. The crucial moment will be the nomination of new prime minister. The restoration of monarchy will not be on the agenda in short-term period, she concluded. Even more UDF might keep its position as a leading party after the elections. Fiona Mulun expressed concerns about the future progress of Bulgaria-EU accession negotiations.
