Bulgaria’s Ivan Dinev qualified 12th at the men’s figure skating after short program at the the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games in the United States on January 12. Alexei Yagudin from Russia was first, followed by Takeshi Honda from Japan and Timothy Goebel from the United States. The short program, with eight required elements -- jumps, spins and step sequences -- is worth just one-third of the total score, allowing any of the top three men to claim the Olympic title with a win in Thursday's freeskate final.
