France is determined to stand by its position on EU enlargement, French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine said during his meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Passy. The two officials met within the framework of the International Conference "Civilization and harmony: the Political Dimension" in Istanbul. Vedrine underlined that the concept of EU enlargement is not possible without including Bulgaria and Romania. Minister Passy expressed gratitude for France's position on the EU enlargement. A meeting of experts between the two countries on coordinating cooperation in the UN Security Council has been scheduled at the suggestion of Minister Passy. It was proposed that such consultations become regular. Foreign Minister Passy talked about ethnic tolerance in Bulgaria during the forum in Istanbul. Passy gave high assessment to the idea of the conference, initiated by his Turkish counterpart Cem. Bulgaria's Foreign Minister added that taking into consideration the understanding between the different ethnic groups in Bulgaria, the country could become a host to a similar meeting in the future.
