BULGARIA'S NAGANO OLYMPIC CHAMPION DAFOVSKA - FIFTH IN SALT LAKE CITY

Bulgaria's Ekaterina Dafovska finished fifth at the February 11th biathlon women 15 kilometers competition during the Winter Olympics Games in Salt Lake City, US. In 1998, 22 year old Bulgarian Ekaterina Dafovska surprisingly won women's biathlon 15 km individual with score of 54:52.0 and thus gave Bulgaria its first ever Winter Games gold during the Nagano Winter Olympic Games. In a separate development Vassil Ivanov, chairman of Bulgaria’s State Agency for Youth and Sports met with Evangelos Vanizelos, Greek Minister of Culture and Sports at an official gala given by the organizers of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens in the framework of the Winter Olympics Games in Salt Lake City.Both sides confirmed their commitment to establish a mixed committee for pre-Olympic cooperation between Bulgaria’s and Greece’s sports authorities.Vassil Ivanov also held talks with former President of International Olympic Committee - Huan Antonio Samaranch. The marquise expressed to be positively surprised by the active work of the management of the Bulgarian sports and wished at least one medal to Bulgaria from the Olympics.
