BULGARIA THIRD IN PARLIAMENTARY CORRUPTION ON THE BALKANS

The Customs tops the list of institutions people consider corrupt, Coalition 2000 report states. The same opinion holds true of the customs officials as well. According to the report the Presidency is widely considered to be the least corrupt institution. This is the third report of the coalition, set up in 1997, which united the efforts of non-governmental organizations and state institutions. Viewed in the Balkans context Bulgaria ranks third in parliamentary corruption with 7,4%, preceded by Macedonia and Romania, 7,8% and 8,2% respectively. The parliaments in Albania and Bosnia are generally thought to be pervaded by corruption - 7,4% and 7,3% of the people expressed this opinion. Croatia’s Parliament seems to come close to the notion of corruption-free institution with 5,9% of the votes.
